Yesterday Sadda Kulturförening held a ceremony in honour of mothers, celebrating the success of their sons and daughters at upper secondary school and at university — an occasion full of gratitude to every mother who was the first support along the way. To strengthen a woman is to strengthen a family: a mother who is secure and strong is the ground the next generation is built on.
The evening opened with a welcome from the association's chair, Rabaa Rahal, followed by Noura Melhem of Finders Rusta och Matcha and Nivin Abu Raya of Studiefrämjandet, before members and invited guests.
The mothers being honoured shared their own stories and what they had lived through in this important time in their children's lives, and reminded us that behind every success lies a history of patience, of sacrifice and of love.
- Dr Reem Hourani spoke about her part in the association and about why health awareness matters in a community.
- Nidaa spoke about complementary medicine and its place alongside ordinary care.
- Ola Al-Bazaz spoke about treatment for hair loss and about the part health awareness plays there.
- Samar Abu Harb spoke about the role of the family and of the community seen through a sociologist's eyes, and about strengthening awareness within a family.
We will meet them again in a series of gatherings on support and empowerment for women. Thank you to every mother who made this success with her love and her persistence, and warm congratulations to all our graduates — we wish you a bright future, full of whatever you set out to reach.
