Behind every success there is a strong mother worth honouring

While pupils across Sweden were celebrating their graduation, Sadda Förening honoured the mothers standing behind those achievements. A day full of warmth, gratitude and pride — with 37 remarkable women from many different cultures. (25 June 2025, Helsingborg)

Sadda Förening held a special event in honour of mothers — in recognition of everything they had given, and of the part they played in their children's success in Sweden this year.

The programme held several parts, and together they made for a warm and grateful evening:

  • A welcome from the association's chair, Rabaa Rahal.
  • A moving film of moments of success.
  • The presentation of certificates and small gifts.
  • A break for fika, for talking and getting to know one another.
  • A group photograph at the close, to remember it by.

The guest speakers were:

  • Nivin Abou Ria of Studiefrämjandet, who gave a well-received talk on their continuing support for community and educational work.
  • Omamiya Abou Asaad, managing director of Rusta Jobbstjärnan, who spoke on the empowerment of women and on the part mothers play in building what is to come.

Our particular thanks to darraji_sweet for the generous contribution of fika, which did much for the evening, and to Studiefrämjandet for their continued support.

While students across Sweden celebrate their graduation these days, Sadda Förening chose to turn the light on the mothers with a migration background who stand behind those achievements. Thirty-seven women took part, from many different cultural backgrounds, each with her own story of patience and of sacrifice.

We gathered today to honour the fruit of effort, of patience and of sacrifice. To say to every mother: thank you. What the children have achieved reflects directly what their mothers raised them to be, and their persistence in giving them the best chances they could, in spite of everything that migration and settling into Swedish society asks of a family.

With that the association closed the evening in gratitude to everyone who came and everyone who contributed, and made the point that to honour mothers is to honour the human values that hold all of us together.
